Meet the Doctors
Dr. Jeff Stickel
Doctor of Chiropractic
I grew up in Pleasant Hill and went to East High School. I graduated in 1988. My dad, Richard passed away with cancer in 1990 at the age of 43. While he was fighting for his health, I was constantly looking for the cause of cancer. I had heard of Chiropractic and its healing power so I switched from a journalism major to Chiropractic! If someone had told my dad what health was earlier he would still be alive today! HEALTH is when you are HEALING and FUNCTIONING at 100%. Chiropractic ensures that your nervous system has NO INTERFERENCE and thus OPTIMAL HEALING and you can fight cancer and disease.
I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in February of 1996 and started Stickel Chiropractic on Ingersoll in Des Moines in March of 1996. The clinic has been on Ingersoll ever since, but I changed the name in 2009 to ADIO which stands for ABOVE DOWN INSIDE OUT–this is how your body heals!! adio chiropractic resides in the adio building at 2925 Ingersoll on the 2nd floor.
While I was at Palmer in Davenport I met a beautiful person named Heather Hatten and we got married in November of 1999. She is a very inspiring artist and interior designer! She and her partner, Nickole Modglin have studio 3 on the 3rd floor of the adio building. We have two amazing kids! We have a daughter named Sunne and a son named Shea. They are very active in baseball, softball, dance, basketball, tennis, swimming, and art.
We are MaxLiving Chiropractors and are on a WORLDWIDE MISSION to change the way people look at their health. In the U.S., health is not at the top of our value list. As SOON as you lose your health, it becomes your number one value. We cannot wait for this! HEALTH needs to be tied with GOD and FAMILY as your number one values. When you become a patient at adio, we do our VERY BEST to get you COMMITTED to OPTIMAL HEALTH!!!
Dr. John V. Donlon III
Doctor of Chiropractic
I grew up in New England residing in the states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Although I love the culture, atmosphere, and great history New England has to offer, my education and life experiences has led me to the great Midwest. At the age of twenty two I was involved in a horrible rollover car accident traveling at high speed on the freeway. The car wreck left me with tremendous low back pain creating difficulty with walking, and neck pain which caused the inability to move my head. Traditional medicine was not helping in relieving my symptoms, so it was then that I decided to give chiropractic a try. Chiropractic helped greatly in relieving my symptoms and regaining full range of motion with my neck again. It was at this point in my life that I discovered the power this great profession has to offer, and began my journey to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic.
After attending the University of Massachusetts where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Premedical studies, I was accepted to and graduated from The Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. I graduated and received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree, and was blessed to see many more lives change while going through my clinical rotations.
My goal as a physician in the Des Moines community is to not only help patients with their pain, but also to educate them about how nerve interference causes many of today’s most common ailments people suffer from, and how we can help.
Dr. Jeff Heller
Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Heller discovered chiropractic while in college. As an athlete he suffered an injury and was facing a back surgery that would fuse his spine and end his athletic career. His family searched for a second opinion and he began chiropractic care. Through the rehabilitative care he received along with specific therapeutic exercises, Dr. Heller was able to avoid surgery and continue his college career. This changed the course of his career from a career in sports medicine and surgery to chiropractic sports medicine focusing on disc and spinal rehabilitation
Dr. Heller attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, and completed advanced training in spinal biomechanics and rehabilitation. He completed his post-graduate internship with one of the country’s leaders in scoliosis care and disc rehabilitation before beginning practice in 2000. Dr. Heller is results-oriented and his goal is to help people not only feel better, but to also work towards correcting the source of their problem. Over the last two decades, he has helped countless individuals and families improve their lives and health through chiropractic. He specializes in disc degeneration, bulging or herniated discs, scoliosis, migraine headaches, numbness or tingling in arms/legs, and low back pain. Dr. Heller will work as a team with his patients and their doctors; focusing on the whole person, incorporating simple exercises and nutrition to reach maximum results.
Outside of the office Dr. Heller enjoys spending time with his wife Melissa and his three children Kati, Kelsey, and Calen. They live a very active life while participating in multiple sports. Dr. Heller loves to read, but also enjoys watching his children participate in many different sports and even helping to coach his children's teams when possible.
Dr. Zak Laird
Doctor of Chiropractic
I grew up right here on the East side of Des Moines. I graduated high school from East High, where I participated in both wrestling and baseball. My love for wrestling and head to head competition led me to a career as a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter for eight years. I was able to travel all over the United States competing against some of the best in the world, and even on the nationally televised Bellator promotion. It was during my MMA career that I found my love for chiropractic and the amazing healing power it has. I suffered an injury and after seeing countless medical professionals and getting nothing from it except prescriptions, I started looking for other solutions. After seeing a chiropractor I was able regain full range of motion and was pain free for the first time in years. After my first adjustment I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
After graduating from Grand View University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in both Biology and Biotechnology I was then accepted to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I graduated from Palmer with my Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2018. While at Palmer I found a passion for pediatric chiropractic and was part of the Palmer pediatric club and I am an active member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. I am adamant about providing the absolute best care that I possibly can for my patients, which is why I am constantly continuing to better myself and educate myself about chiropractic care.
Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife, Vancy and our amazing son Hudson. Vancy and I met my junior year of high school and have been together ever since. We married in June of 2016 and we were blessed to have our first child, Hudson November of 2017. I am a very active person and love to go out and do things with my family outdoors, going on walks, grilling out, golfing, playing softball, or playing bags.
Our staff members work with our doctors every day to provide our patients with a professional and friendly experience.

Billing and Insurance Specialist
Lindsay is currently our billing and insurance specialist. She has been a part of ADIO Chiropractic for 16 years and is the jack of all trades at our office. She started working for Dr. Stickel right out of college in 2002 when the office was still a small house. She has been there through all the growth and success that is now ADIO Chiropractic. In 2004 the small house was torn down, and the development of our current building began. Lindsay helped with all the moving and renovations of ADIO Chiropractic.
She grew up in Muscatine and Sioux City but currently lives in Pleasant Hill with her husband and 2 young boys, ages 6 and 3. Lindsay enjoys chasing and playing with her little boys, being outdoors, and cooking up delicious healthy meals for her family.
